Hue
While imperial rule ended nearly six decades ago, the centralized region of Hue continues to bear the marks of its royal past. From the years of 1802 to 1945 Hue served as the home to 13 Nguyen emperors, whose palaces and tombs provide sensational glimpses into the luxurious and secretive life of the court. Visitors to Hue are welcome to explore the red-lacquered pavilions of the Citadel, to take an evening boat cruise along the Perfume River while accompanied by a troupe of musicians that perform courtly love songs, or to feast on delicacies that had at one time been served in the royal palaces.
