Selva Bananito

On the way south from Puerto Limon there is a turnoff at the village of Bananito. From there a bumpy road leads to the new Selva Bananito Lodge, at the edge of an 850-hectare private nature preserve. The lodge is an ingenious combination of comfort, nature and ecology. There are seven well-designed wooden bungalows, each with its own tiled bath with hot water (heated by solar energy), and a beautiful verandah hung with hammocks. The restaurant serves delicious typical Costa Rican dishes and commands a splendid view of the mountains. The owner of the hotel accompanies her visitors on hikes into the rain forest on foot, horseback or mountain bike, as well as providing guests an opportunity to prove their tree climbing skills.
