Collingwood

Collingwood lies 17 miles (28km) to the north-west of Takaka. A former gold rush town (gold was discovered in 1856 in the Aorere River) Collingwood is a base for guided tours to Farewell Spit and for those who plan to walk the well-known Heaphy Track. Other attractions in the area include the Te Anaroa limestone caves and isolated Wharariki Beach where there is a seal colony.
