Vanua Levu
A one hour flight from Nadi will take you to Vanua Levu. Vanua Levu Island is just north of Viti Levu, is half the size of Viti Levu and is the second largest Island in Fiji with a population of 128,000.
There are fewer tourists that have found this island. Vanua Levu is known for it’s extraordinary scenery, National Parks and nature Reserves. The rainforests and beautiful waterfalls are numerous with many natural highlights.
Vanua Levu Island is undeveloped for tourism, however for the adventurous type there are some small, remote resorts in the best spots that are self contained. There are few restaurants and facilities to be found on Viti Levu as the locals mostly live off the land. The best activities are sailing, scuba diving or snorkeling, hiking and windsurfing.
Savusavu Bay is the main stop, and just a short hop to Taveuni Island and Namena Island. Savusavu Bay is a favorite anchorage for south pacific adventure sailors, and visiting yachtsmen from around the world. Natewa Bay is also a great place to visit. The renowned Rainbow Reef extends all the way from Savusavu to Tavueni Island. Divers from all parts of the world visit this spectacular scuba diving region. There are no upscale or luxury resorts on Vanu Levu, however Tavueni has several.
