Hastings

Only 12 1/2 miles (20km) further south of Napier, on SH2, Hastings is set in the middle of the Hawke’s Bay fruit and wine-growing region. During harvest season, roadside stalls are literally brimming over with bargain-priced citrus fruits and other fresh produce. There are also several wineries producing some excellent wines, to ensure that those who follow the Hawke’s Bay wine trail (contact information office for details) will have a pleasurable time.

Other places to visit include the Hawke’s Bay Exhibition Centre, with its changing exhibitions of local, national and international art and if you are travelling with children Fantasyland leisure park.

In nearby Havelock North, Keirunga Gardens with its mini-ature railway is another great place to take the children. A short drive away Te Mata Peak awaits, with breathtaking views and a fine restaurant from which to enjoy them.
