Cape Palliser A side trip for the more adventurous is to the most southerly point of the North Island at Cape Palliser. To get there, continue on from Martinborough in the direction of Lake Ferry, a tiny
fishing settlement. Shortly before Lake Ferry there is a turn-off to Whangaimoana. From now on the road is largely unsealed as it follows the rugged, exposed coastline to the Cape. Drivers should note that several streams have to be forded which can be dangerous after heavy rain. At the Cape there is a lighthouse and the North Island’s largest seal colony.
