Little River is tiny little village on one of the most beautiful coves on the Lost Coast of California, just three miles south of Mendocino Village.
Abalone divers and kayakers from all over California rush to Van Damme State Park for the opening day of abalone season. This placid cove has produced millions upon millions of abalone. This is the most popular park on the Lost Coast and is usually full unless you make your reservations far ahead. Bring you camera! You will want to have pictures of this rugged, tree lined cove.
Van Damme Park also has great hiking trails leading into fern grottos, pigmy forest and magnificant redwood trees. The camping facilities are very good if you can find space.
The Little River Inn is an old historic inn with bar overlooking the cove, a nice golf course with its ninth hole overlooking the ocean. The food is very good and hearty. The bar is a favorite of local and guests.
The gas station, country store in Little River is a good place to refuel you car and your belly, with a huge selection of goodies for travelers and campers alike.
