The Experience
Hotel Villa del Quar Verona
Nestling in Valpolicella’s rolling hills and vineyards, a short distance from Verona, stands the Villa del Quar. Time in this elegant Venetian patrician residence seems to have stood still at the height of the Napoleonic Era, somewhere between 1790 and 1810. The hotel’s furniture, decor and palette of colors all evoke the dominant Neoclassical style of those times. Comfort, elegance and sophistication arecombined with the graceful, simple lines of antiquity, reflecting the renewed archaeological interest in the great civilizations of the past. Indeed the discovery of Pompeii and Napoleon’s campaign in Egypt date from this time.
The interior of Villa del Quar relies heavily on wood and terracotta and Venetian floors, the furniture is antique and the colors used are typical of those found in Venetian art, combining golds and blues with reds and greens.
The owners, Mr. Leopoldo Montresor and his wife Maria Evelina Acampora, live in a part of the Villa. They join their passion for the antiques, the Venetian Villas to the art and the pleasure of the warm hospitality for which they achieved important results gained with the international Hotel guides. Villa del Quar has been awarded for 10 consecutive years with the “3 Golden Keys” as one of the 10 Best Hotelsin Italy. Furthermore, their love for the good “Cuisine” and their research in all these years have brought to many awards from the gourmand guides.
The villa is located in a vast estate cultivated with vines. The surrounding gardens are spacious and most pleasant to walk around. Dotted throughout with palms, pines and assorted fruit trees, the gardens also feature a large swimming pool in the shape of a clover leaf. The estate vineyards produce its own label of red wine, Valpolicella Satyrus Riserva.
The Hotel Villa del Quar opened in 1992 and has 25 rooms and suites. Just ultimate the new Suite overlooking the pool and five new suites and junior suites were added to a wing of one of the several buildings in the complex all built at different times and set around a large garden. As the date inscribed in the stone frieze – 1539 – confirms, the main Villa was erected in the sixteenth century while anotherbuilding was extended and restructured in the eighteenth century.
All the rooms open onto the gardens and are decorated in the Empire style with antique furniture, upholstered in gold and striped brocade in various shades of red. Every room has a telephone, television, mini-bar, safe, air-conditioning and bathrobes. The bathrooms are in marble of various colors. Six of the rooms have a bath and the rest all have a shower cubicle. The bathroom courtesy set comes complete with shampoo, shower gel, body lotion, bath and hand soap, cotton wool and tissues.
The hotel’s restaurant, which was awarded two prestigious Michelin stars, is famous for its excellent cuisine. There is also a breakfast room, a bar, a tearoom and lounge, an outdoor swimming pool, gazebo bar and berceau, a gym, a meeting room and a wine cellar where frequent wine-tasting events are held.
