The Lake Region
The Lake District of Chile is well-known for its breathtaking beauty and its collection of natural wonders. You will find not only glistening, blue lakes, but towering mountains and fascinating forests as well. There are two regions of Chile that make up the Lake District: La AraucanÃa, to the north, and Los Lagos, to the south.
La Araucana is home to a collection of national parks with stunning scenery and wildlife. The ancient Araucaria trees of this region are a popular attraction as well. You will come across not only lakes, mountains and forests, but volcanoes as well, in certain areas. La Araucana is also home to Temuco, a great place to stay when you,™re not on a tourist nature expedition.
In the southern Region of Los Lagos, you will find Valdivian Rainforest, which is the second largest temperate rainforest in the world. Nestled below the Andes, you will love visiting the beautiful lakes of Los Lagos as well.
The ancient Alerce forests of this area are home to the second longest-lived tree in the world. The major towns and cities in this region include Puerto Montt, Valdivia, and Puerto Varas; all of which make great bases for exploration.
