Mill Valley
The town square in Mill Valley, called the plaza by locals, is a very popular place to hang out. There are also a few tourists that are lucky enough to stumble upon the hideaway. There is a great little book store with a small, but fun cafe with outside seating on the square. Artists from all over the country flock to to Mill Valley just to capture in paint the quaint atmosesphere of this unique village.
Mill Valley has attracted many world famous musicians, writers, movie stars and telivision personalities. Jerry Garcia, from the Grateful Dead, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Hewey Lewis and the News, Bob Weir, Sammy Hager, Bonnie Raitt, Clarence Clemons, Pete Sears, Janis Joplin. The renowned Sweetwater Saloon in Mill Valley featured these muscians and many more, like Carlos Santana, John Lee Hooker, Elvis Costello, Bonnie Raitt. BBC telivision imortalized the Sweetwater Saloon in a documentary featuring John Lee Hooker, Bonnie Raitt and Ry Cooder.

Don’t be surprised to get the feeling that you want to live in Mill Valley, everyone does as soon as the first lay eyes on it. There are rustic homes in the towering redwood groves along Old Mill Creek, perched of the wooded hills below Mt. Tamalpais and hidden in just about every possible building spot. Most visitors spend a few hours just walking around area checking out the interesting variety of homes, some mystical cottage types, others are modern redwood homes designed to fit comfortably among the trees. You’ll be shocked by the sky high prices these home bring. Don’t expect to find anything cheap–a tiny fixer-up in Mill Valley could cost over a million dollars.
Mill Valley is a nature lovers dream come true, with hundreds of miles of fantastic trails in the wilderness of Mt. Tamalpais Watershed behind the town. There are so many wonderful hiking and mountain biking trails it would take years to experience them all in this protected wilderness area. There is plentyful food for these animals so they are not likely to attack, having herds of deer, thousands of wild turkeys, including rabbits, rats, mice, squirrels, carrion, and insects to feed on. If by chance you do happen upon a mountain lion, which is unlikely, do not run, they will chase you down in a automatic responce.
San Francisco Bay and Sausalito are close by with nice bike and walking trails to make it easy and fun to travel. There you will find boating, sailing, kayaking and a myriad of exciting things to do.
The close proximity of San Francisco, the bay, all the other wonderful Marin County towns and of course, the Napa and Sonoma wine country make Mill Valley an awesome destination!
