Explore the jungle and Mayan ruins in the Cayo District, and then discover the beauty of the barrier reef off the shores of Ambergris Caye. The Cayo District is your base for Mayan ruins and jungle adventures. The town of San Ignacio is the gateway to the Mayan sites of Caracol and Xunantunich, as well as Tikal in Guatemala. Adventure awaits you with options for ziplining, cave tubing, river kayaking, nature trails, and jungle exploration. Birdwatchers take note, there are many species of birds to add to your list. After 2 nights in the Cayo district, continue to Ambergris Caye for 5 days of fun on the beach. For water sports enthusiasts, there is world-class scuba diving and snorkeling. For fisherpersons, there is the thrill of bone fishing in the shallow sand flats, or deep-sea fishing for marlin, sailfish and tuna. And if you aren’t interested in water activities, you can just relax and explore the charming little town of San Pedro. Includes:

Day 1 – Cayo District: Arrival meet and greet at the airport. Departure time for the shuttle service from Belize City to San Ignacio is 3:30 pm. (If you arrive into Belize City later than 2:30 pm, you will need a private transfer to San Ignacio, which would be an additional cost.) The scenic two-hour drive will take you from the mangrove swamps of the coastal area outside Belize City, through the savannahs of central Belize, to the green rolling hills of the Cayo District. Overnight at selected lodge/hotel. Day 2 – Cayo District: Today’s fun adventure is a canoe tour of Barton Creek Caves, part of an elaborate network of caverns in the Maya Mountains of western Belize. Equipped with a headlamp and flashlight, paddle through dark caves once used by the Mayans for rituals and sacrifices. Be on the lookout for intricate crystalline formations and ancient Maya relics. Enjoy the rest of day at leisure. Overnight. Day 3 – Cayo District Day at leasiure to enjoy the Cayo District. Visit the Maya site of Caracol, go for a hike or head north to Orange Walk and Laminai. The Cayo offers plenty to do for today the choice is completely yours. Day 4 – Cayo District to Ambergris Caye: Todays the day you travel from the Cayo District to Ambergris Caye thorugh Belize city. Ground transfer from your selected hotel in the Cayo to Belize City airport to catch a flight to San Pedro Town on Ambergris Caye. Depending on your selected accommodations, you will either be transferred via ground to your hotel or via ground and water taxi. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure and enjoy the charm of Ambergris Caye. Days 5 – Ambergris Caye: This morning (9:00 am), a 3 hour snorkeling adventure awaits you at Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Depart from Fido’s Pier by boat and head southeast to Hol Chan (Maya for Little Channel,), the first marine reserve established in Central America. Explore the coral reefs as you swim among the abundant marine life. Your second snorkel stop will be Shark Ray Alley. Here you will find friendly reef fish including snappers, darts, graceful stingrays and inquisitive brown nurse sharks. After your personal encounter with these friendly critters, you will return to San Pedro to your hotel. Overnight Ambergris Caye. Overnight Ambergris Caye. Day 6 – Depart Ambergris Caye: Day at leisure. Go for an optional dive, relax at your hotel/resort and go for short snorkel trips from the shore or go into San Pedro Town for shopping and lunch. The day is yours to enjoy. Overnight Ambergris Caye Day 7 – Depart Ambergris Caye: Transfer to airport for flight back to Belize City to connect to your international flight or continue on to your next Avanti destination.
