The Experience
Wequassett Resort
The Wequassett is on Travel and Leisure’s annual list of The World’s Best Hotels. Wequassett blends beautifully amongst its contemporaries – embodying a magical charm while maintaining the sophistication that enables it to keep ranks with exclusive Parisian hotels. Wequassett has once again been named to the Conde Nast Traveler Gold List – an accolade that may prompt you to select the resort for your next celebration: the event planners are aptly described as being “truly meticulous.” As these unique publications note the high-caliber of the resort, the readers are agreeing: Conde Nast People’s Choice Award has rated Wequassett amongst the top 50 resorts in the United States. Confirming Wequassett’s spot amongst the world’s most celebrated resort destinations: Twenty-eight Atlantic, Wequassett’s fine dining restaurant, recently received four stars from Mobil, giving it the unique distinction of being the only restaurant on Cape Cod to be awarded four diamonds from AAA and four Stars from the Mobil rating system. In fact, in each of the four prestigious awards, the Wequassett is the oldest standing Cape Cod property to enjoy recognition.
Wequassett Resort and Golf Club is an immaculately landscaped property, comprised of twenty buildings scattered on twenty-three acres of pristine waterfront overlooking Pleasant Bay and the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Round Cove on the other. Decorated beautifully to match the Cape Cod cottage architecture, this elegant-yet understated- resort is an idyllic destination offering one hundred and twenty guest rooms. The views of Pleasant Bay are simply spectacular from the three waterfront restaurants, as well as from the pool area. An incredibly popular spot for meetings, conventions, weddings and other significant events, the resort also offers a wide array of recreational amenities for even the most discerning guest. The summer Jazz festival series which takes place throughout July and August is not to be missed, and the live music down on the new Pleasant Bay Terrace is the ideal locale to savor a “liBAYtion” or light summer supper. The quintessential Cape Cod experience is captured with traditional Clambakes, tennis, boating, world class golf and beaching activities aplenty. As a member of Preferred Hotels and Resorts, Wequassett’s standards for excellence continue to reach unprecedented levels.

While savoring such flavors as the Wequassett’s rich lobster in sauce, you’ll have trouble taking your eyes off spectacular ocean views from the resort’s fine-dining restaurant twenty-eight Atlantic, hailed as “Cape Cod’s premier dining destination, for both the cuisine and 180-degree view of Pleasant Bay.” Executive Chef James Hackney oversees the restaurant featuring what they are calling “progressive New England cuisine”, having formerly held that post at the famed L’espalier for 10 years. “When I am creating new dishes, I always keep the preparations simple so that the natural flavors maintain their integrity,” Hackney said. Dishes are served in a completely renovated dining room, featuring high ceilings, hand-blown glass chandeliers and a working fireplace. “He bases his menu items on traditional New England food but he tends to do things that are a touch different by incorporating ingredients that wouldn’t usually be there,” says Kimberly Barrett, a spokeswoman for Wequassett. A petit clambake with an emulsified butter poached lobster, bliss potatoes and asparagus is one example of this cuisine, created by executive chef James Hackney. (This is not your typical sand-on-the-paper-plates clambake).
Thoreau’s is a club-like bar adjacent to twenty-eight Atlantic. Its warm ambiance is derived from leather tones, overstuffed chairs and a stone and granite fireplace. This intimate setting overlooks tranquil Pleasant Bay. Thoreau’s offers a unique menu, an extensive wine list, and a wide selection of martinis and specialty cocktails. The smell of salt air mingles with the aromas of casual summertime cuisine at the Cape’s newest destination for informal dining and socializing, Outer Bar & Grille. Relax and enjoy the sun, surf and scenic vistas from our inviting open-air dining room and seaside deck. Chef James Hackney’s innovative menu offers mouth-watering choices for every taste, from crab cakes remoulade and char grilled Angus burgers to grilled pizzas and Panini. LiBAYtion is a beachfront bar offering the best water views on Cape Cod under a fashionable pergola. Guests may enjoy the diverse menu featured at the Outer Bar & Grill during the summer months , LiBAYtion serves lunch and dinner, weather permitting and adds a schedule of entertainment in the evenings.
There is a multitude of activities available at this full-service resort. For the golfer, the most enticing of them is that, unless you are a member, you must stay here to play at the Cape Cod National one of the finest, most prestigious clubs in the nation. Tennis enthusiasts will appreciate Wequassett’s four all-weather plexi-pave regulation courts. Daily drill clinics offer the opportunity to learn a new strategy, improve your grip or work on your strokes. The resident pro is available for lessons or will gladly fill in as a doubles partner when needed.
Wequassett recently completed an extensive renovation of their pool area. A magnificent elevated entrance with a peaceful fountain and exquisite gardens overlooks Pleasant Bay, Round Cove and the ocean beyond with a sweeping 270 degree view. The beautiful pool and Jacuzzi are complemented with oversized urns with lush flowers and plantings. A boardwalk of rich Brazilian wood wraps around them providing a breathtaking elevation to lounge in a luxurious cabana. Pleasant Bay Terrace is located adjacent to the pool and offers lunch and dinner during the summer months. Family barbecues and clambakes are also featured in July and August.
