The Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao

Facing the Guggenheim Museum, is the Silken Hotels’ first five-star and the chain’s pride. The GHBD expresses a contemporary concept that avoids ostentation and promotes fun. The project is infected by its neighbour, the Guggenheim’s, activity and offers a space that contains a selection of furniture that represents the most emblematic design from the 20th century. Its singularity consists in the application of a concept of integral design, of great, formal coherence, carried out by Javier Mariscal and Fernando Salas with their respective teams. GHBD isn’t only a hotel to stay at, but a colourist microcosmos that opens its door to whoever wishes to get close to it and have a coffee, a drink or eat in its restaurant.

Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao has 145 rooms and suites.  Rooms are spacious and modern with views over the Atrium, interior courtyard, the quiet Lersundi Street, or Guggenheim Museum.  With integral design by Javier Mariscal, each floor is decorated in a range of colours running from ochre to red, and original and restful combination.  Guestrooms feature fully equipped Travertino’s marble bathrooms with VIP toiletries, LCD televisions and satellite TV, mini bar, safe, air-conditioning, Egyptian cotton sheets, wool and cashmere blankets, designer furniture, and more.

The Atrium – The atrium flooded with interior light is one of the elements that singularises the GHBD. On entering the visitor encounters a sculptural piece by Mariscal, the Fossil Cypress, that occupies the entire verticality of the building, from the floor to the skylight that crowns the terrace. The sculpture is 26 metres in height, two and a half in diameter and 90 tonnes in weight. A piece that recreates an interior journey that compensates for the absence of views from the interior rooms.

The Terrace Restaurant  – The Lookout Terrace, located on the 7th floor, offers breathtaking views of the Guggenheim Museum and surroundings.  The restaurant service is served on this privileged location.Our cuisine manager is Martin Berasategui, prestigious basque cooker who recently added the 7th Michelin star to his acknowledged experience.

Le Cafe Metropol –  Its interiorism is a homage to Bauhaus and the designers who stood out in the 20’s of the 20th Century. This is why it’s expressed in black and white and uses stainless steel, a material that reflects the trust in new technology that moved them. The crystallised closing turns into an open view of the urban street with the Guggenheim in full view. The neighbourhood of the museum reassures an atmosphere and a cosmopolitan audience.

Splash & Crash Bar – Red and white characterises its interior. The colours evoke the passion and purity that were necessary to believe in the ideals that were forged in the 70’s, the epoch that inspired its decoration. This is a place thought out so one can express themselves openly over a good drink, listening to good music and enjoying a good late night atmosphere.

Txoko Tranquilo Corner – This is the space which best pays homage to the design of the 20th Century. A place that, far from looking like an exposition of objects of design, manages to establish a relaxing dialogue, filled with warmth, so that you can read or converse upon the grass calmly. A chimney lit up in winter warms the atmosphere and makes it even more welcoming. In the Txoko Tranquilo Corner a library has been created with titles related to design, architecture and interiorism.

Buenasvistas Terrace – A large terrace paved with teakwood from where unusual views of the Guggenheim and the Ría can be taken in, and a covered zone by a copper-latticed canopy that shelters those wishing to shelter high up, allowing the appreciation of the geography of a place where modernisation doesn’t prevent the natural countryside from strongly coming forth from where the urban landscape is interrupted. From the Buenasvistas Terrace, in the heights and the fresh air, the world is perceived from a serene distance.
