The Experience

Ojai Valley Inn & Spa

This gorgeous, golf- and spa-oriented resort sits just over the hills from Santa Barbara. It welcomes guests with its cheery, Spanish-style red roofs and massive health and beauty spa. The latter is a favorite with single gals and couples from L.A., although said guests come for more than just the massages. They’re also lured by the peaceful surroundings, a relaxing bar and unforgettable pampering. The landmark inn was built in 1923, and the resort’s post-millennium, $70 million renovation made sure to stay true to the original design.

The Ojai Valley Inn and Spa has 305 guest rooms. Many rooms feature fireplaces, private balconies or patios overlooking the golf course and the surrounding mountains. In the original 1923 Hacienda building, each room has been redecorated in the Spanish Colonial style with four-poster beds, carved furniture, and restored hardwood floors and decorative tile from the 1920s.

Cuisine at The Ojai Valley Inn and Spa emphasizes foods that are grown in the Ojai area and in the Inn’s own gardens and orchards.  Maravilla, the Inn’s restaurant, specializes in California Regional Cuisine and fine local wines. Oak Cafe serves American grill-style food either fireside or on the terrace in the shade of 250 year old oak trees. Acorn, Spa Ojai’s poolside cafe, serves fresh vegetables, local fruits, olives, cheeses and seafood seasoned with Mediterranean flavors.

The original golf course at Ojai Valley Inn and Spa was built in the early 1920s. The par-70 golf course has since then been enhanced and has hosted several Senior PGA TOUR events. Other recreational activities include horseback riding at the Inn’s own Ranch & Stables, hiking, tennis (eight hard courts), birdwatching and biking. The Ojai Valley Inn and Spa features three heated swimming pools, steam and sauna rooms, and whirlpools. Guests can participate in complimentary fitness classes, including T’ai Chi, yoga, Ojai Boxercise, spinning, the daily morning walk, guided meditation, guided Labyrinth Walk, salsa dancing, tribal rhythms, and Qi Gong.
