Day 3: Linderhof & Neuschwanstein
Set out into the Bavarian countryside to King Ludwig II,™s Neuschwanstein Castle. Looking more like a stage set than a real palace, it is no wonder Walt Disney used it as the model for his Sleeping Beauty Castle and later as Disneyland Castle itself. Its construction almost brought Bavaria to bankruptcy, and Ludwig’s early death in the lake is rumored to be closely connected with this. Take time to walk to the Marienbrucke (Mary,™s Bridge) crossing a deep, narrow gorge. From this vantage point you have the best, and probably most photographed, views of this stunning fairy-tale castle. Aftwerward, see Ludwig II,™s country retreat at Linderhof. Its rococo styling is said to have been modeled on that of the palace of Versailles. Return to your hotel after sightseeing.
