The Experience
Stroll through Salzburg, Mozart’s birthplace, and then take the funicular to the Hohensalzburg Fortress. Drive along the Königsee valley to Berchtesgaden, where you descend to the 450-year-old salt mines, and then visit Eagle’s Nest, Hitler’s mountain retreat. Day 1: Salzburg
On arrival at Salzburg’s airport you are met by your Guardian Angel and transferred by private vehicle to your hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure.

Day 2: Salzburg
See Salzburg,™s most important sights on a walking tour with your local guide, including Mozart,™s birthplace on Getreidegasse, the Pferdeschwemme (Royal Horse Trough), St. Peter,™s Abbey and the cemetery. Take the funicular railway up to visit the Hohensalzburg Fortress, the largest, fully preserved fortress in central Europe. See the lavish staterooms and enjoy marvelous views of Salzburg and the surrounding countryside. Continue to the Mirabell Palace and Gardens, best known for being part of the background in The Sound of Music. An optional activity for today is visiting the Augustiner Brewery, founded by monks in 1621. Take a private tour, following the path of beer, from the Brew House to bottling.

Day 3: Berchtesgaden
Enjoy Alpine splendor today when you cross the Austrian-Bavarian border and drive along the Königsee valley to the town of Berchtesgaden and the nearby 450-year old salt mines. Don traditional miner,™s clothing and enter the mines to learn the historical and legendary tales of this fascinating underground world. A miniature train takes you nearly a half mile into the mountain to an enormous chamber where salt is mined. Slide down a wooden chute (or use the steps) and take a boat ride on an underground saline lake. This afternoon, continue to Eagle,™s Nest, Hitler,™s retreat high up in the mountains, for a fantastic view over the peaks of the Bavarian mountains.
