Nantucket

Nantucket Island is only 30 miles off Cape Code, and easily reachable by ferry from Hyannisport. Nantucket is a wonderful vacation destination. There are actually three islands, Nantucket, is the biggest, Tuckernuck and Muskeget Island are much smaller. In the summer Nantucket rocks! Nantucket is designated a Nation Historic District. At one time Nantucket was the center of the whaling industry and hundreds of whaling ship captains lived on the island. The whale oil was industry brought big money to the island in its hay day.

The Wampanoag Indians were the first inhabitants of Nantucket Island. Later Europeans discovered the island, started the whaling industry, then prospered until oil was discovered in the ground in Penslyvania. Now Nantucket is one of the very best vacations in the world.
